Dr Laura Randle is a senior lecturer in Pharmacology within the Department of Pharmacology & Therapeutics at The University of Liverpool. She has expertise in the field of hepatoprotection and cellular defence pathways, DILI, in vivo and in vitro hepatic models. Her industrial and UKRC sponsored post doctoral studies provided a strong foundation in molecular biology and global proteomics techniques. During her ECR fellowship training in the lab of Prof. Peter Olinga, a pioneer in the PCTS techniques, she developed expertise in the use of healthy rodent tissue to prepare precision cut liver slices to explore DILI.
Cholangiocarcinoma Research.
Our small but expanding CCA team consists of myself, Mr Tim Gilbert (HPB surgical fellow, LUHT), Mr Mohammed Bosakhar (PhD Student), Mr Owen McGreevy (PhD student), Miss Danae Jessel (PhD Student), Mr Lawrence O'Leary (HPB surgical fellow, LUHT), andMSc and UG project students alongside Prof. Chris Goldring (UoLiv) and Mr Hassan Malik (HPB consultant, LUHT). We are currently implementing and validating the use of Precision Cut Tissue Slices to explore CCA disease progression. We are utilising the model to explore the tumour immune microenvironment and how this will influence therapeutic choice alongside improving our understanding CCA bioenergetics.
Using PCTS and human CCA cell lines, we are also keen to explore novel mutations identified by the wider CCA team using exome analysis to determine their drugability.
Research in my lab is currently funded by NC3Rs, NWCR and Kuwait Ministry of Health.
